Universal Maternal Abdomen with 28 Week-Old Fetus with Airway for FETO

The images and video below illustrate how the Universal Maternal Abdomen (with insert liner) can be used with the 28 week-old fetus with airway to effectively simulate Fetal Endoscopic Tracheal Occlusion procedures. This combination of components creates an ideal surgical simulation of this high risk in-utero procedure that is excellent for teaching the navigation of the intrauterine cavity and the complex physiology of the fetal upper airway.

This unique simulation environment is the only one of its kind in the world thanks to the guidance and medical expertise of Dr. Rory Windrim, Dr. Greg Ryan and Dr. Tim Van Mieghem (Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto), and Dr. Jan Deprest (University of Leuven, Belgium).  Additional contributions and medical expertise were provided by Dr. Dick Oepkes (Leiden University Medical Centre), Dr. Richard Pittini (Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto), and Dr. Anthony Johnson (Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital Houston).

The 28-week old fetus used in this maternal abdomen was used in a clinical trial published in Prenatal Diagnosis (2013), 33, 1–5,Development and use of a high-fidelity simulator for fetal endotracheal balloon occlusion (FETO) insertion and removal, Dr. Rory Windrim, Dr. Greg Ryan, Francis LeBouthillier, Dr. Paolo Campisi, Dr. Edmond N.
